Referral terms
Updated October 28, 2026
These terms cover every referral link for the Regional Newsletter playbook. If you have a link, they apply to you.
Who can refer
Referral links are by invitation. We create each one by hand for a person we have agreed terms with. There is no open sign-up.
How a sale is credited
- Your link is regionalnewsletter.com/ followed by your handle. Adding
?via=and your handle to the address of any page on this site does the same thing. - The first referral link a visitor uses is the one that counts, for 60 days from that visit. A later click on another referral link, even the last one before the purchase, never replaces it.
- Your handle goes with the visitor to checkout and is recorded with the sale. There is no discount code: the buyer pays the published price.
- Credit depends on the buyer’s browser keeping a small cookie. A buyer who clears or blocks cookies, has JavaScript turned off, switches browser or device, or buys more than 60 days after the visit may not be credited. If you think a sale was missed, tell us and we will check our records.
The commission
The standard commission is 15% of what the buyer pays for the playbook, not counting any tax, and before payment processing fees come out. A different rate applies only where we have agreed it with you in writing. If the buyer pays in installments, you earn the same percentage of each installment we collect.
When it is paid
- A commission is earned only once the sale is past its 30-day refund window. The playbook carries a 30-day money-back guarantee, so for 30 days any sale can still be refunded, and a refunded sale earns nothing. Installments are held until the purchase’s refund window has closed.
- No commission is owed on money we do not keep: a refund, a chargeback, or an installment that is never paid. If a sale is refunded or charged back after its commission was paid, we deduct that amount from your next payment.
- Commissions that clear the refund window during a month are paid in the following month, in US dollars, by a payment method we agree with you in writing, once your unpaid balance is at least $100. A smaller balance carries over to the next month.
- You are responsible for any tax on what you earn. Before the first payment we may ask for a tax form, such as a W-9 in the United States or a W-8BEN outside it.
Say that you are paid
When you share your link or recommend the playbook, say clearly that you earn a commission if someone buys. United States law requires it (the Federal Trade Commission’s Endorsement Guides), wherever the recommendation appears: a newsletter, a post, a video, a podcast, an email, or a conversation.
- Put it next to the recommendation or the link, in plain words, where people see it before they click. In a video, podcast, or live stream, say it out loud too.
- A line in your bio, a note people have to click to find, or a vague tag such as #sp or #collab is not enough.
- If you live outside the United States, your own country’s rules apply as well. In the EU, for example, marketing has to be clearly identifiable as marketing.
A sentence that works:
“I earn a commission if you buy the Regional Newsletter playbook through my link.”
Your recommendation has to be your honest opinion. We pay for sales, never for reviews, ratings, or posts.
What a referrer may not do
- Make income or earnings claims. Do not say or suggest what a buyer will earn, what you have earned, or that the playbook pays for itself. We make no income claims about the playbook, and nobody promoting it may make one for us.
- Promise anything the playbook does not include. Describe it only as the sales page does.
- Refer yourself. There is no commission on your own purchase, on a purchase made for you, or where two people buy through each other’s links.
- Bid on our name in paid search. Do not buy search ads on “Regional Newsletter”, “regionalnewsletter.com”, or close variations of them.
Changes and ending
We can change these terms, end the referral program, or end anyone’s participation at any time. A change applies to sales made after it is posted on this page. When a participation ends, sales after that date earn nothing, and commissions on sales already made are still paid once they clear the refund window, unless the participation ended because these terms were broken.
